Live from Lotusland - Cellar Live (2005) with Mike Allen (saxophone), Tilden Webb (piano), Ross Botten, Jodi Proznick (bass), Dave Robbins, Jesse Cahill (drums) |

Description: During the last 4 years, I had the chance to go into CBC studios on Vancouver's Hamilton street, and record jazz with various groups. I am very grateful to have had those sessions, especially since so many old friends of fantastic musical ability were on hand. It was a golden opportunity. When we got to Ottawa, I combed through those recordings and picked out what I think were the strongest moments, for publication. Later, when I called Cory Weeds at the jazz Cellar club in Vancouver to book a CD release, he brought up the idea of releasing it on the club's label. The result is a CD I'm very proud to present, featuring bassist Russ Botten, saxophonist Mike Allen, pianist Tilden Webb, drummer Dave Robbins, and on one track bassist Jodi Proznick and drummer Jesse Cahill. I have long standing musical associations with all these excellent musicians, and they all really came through for me. |

| Coming Home (2003) I can hardly believe how quickly eighteen years has shot by, but that's how long it's been since I turned up, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, in Bob Gilligan's theory class to begin the music program at Edmonton's Grant MacEwan College. Imagine my honour and surprise to be included on this retrospective of alumni and faculty members. | |
| Hot Air Volume III (2002) CBC Vancouver's radio show dedicated to the BC jazz scene has just released their compilation CD, and it features one of my tunes, Hap Hap Happy. This was part of a session I recorded for them last February. The CDs are available exclusively from the Magic Flute, 2100 West 4th Ave., Vancouver. The Ross Taggart Quartet - Thankfully - Cellar Live (2001) with Ross Taggart (saxophone), Bob Murphy (piano), and Bernie Arai (drums) Mike says: "I'm very excited about this CD. It's the first live recording I've ever done, and playing in front of a live audience seems to have imparted a tangible energy to this recording. Of course, with a band like that..." |
